In this contents page, they follow the convention with the logo behind the artist (Kanye West) to connote that the artist important and also to show that he's ahead of things. The contents page is from 'Vibe' magazine but in this case only the first letter is used and enlarged which can imply many things for instance it's unique; not many contents page only use the first letter of the name which can show unique layout for this magazine. Secondly more unique techniques have been used when it says 'contents' it is also written in black font, bold and sharp which connotes serious to the magazine but it shows sophistication as it's not flashy, they're sticking to one colour scheme.

Layout:

The main image is just Kanye West which shows that he is the centre of attention which connotes his importance in this part of the magazine and referencing more of him later on in the magazine. Secondly the image is in black and white which shows a insight of sophisticated - not flashy, easy to see and adds to the seriousness of the artist reflected in his NVC. The only colour used is red on the heart in which as the audience that is the first thing we see.

A commonality with magazines, Vibe follow the convention of using small font which show the stories, interviews, exclusives and competitions} - the relevant sections of the magazine so the readers know what to read in this magazine. the effect of using small font is so that there is much emphasis on the artist. Similarly with the logo and 'Contents' they use the same colour thus adding onto the sophistication and elegance of the magazine.
